Custoza has gone down in history as the scene of two important battles of the Risorgimento, both of which saw the defeatof the Piedmontese armies in 1848 and the Austrian forces in 1866. The 40-metre-long Ossuaryis undoubtedly the main attraction of this village, nestled on gentle, warm hills.
The monument, commissioned by Don G. Pivatelli, is built of tuff sandstone from Mount Ongarine and topped by an obelisk, which leads to a panoramic gallery. The crypts of the Mausoleum house the remains of 1894 fallen soldiers. Custoza is famous for its white wine: Custoza DOC It can be reached on foot or by bicycle, directly from the centre of Valeggio.
