The history of St. Lucia ai Monti has ancient roots, linked to the aristocratic Veronese Guarienti family, very devoted to the Saint of the same name, who healed Messer Pace Guarienti of his illness in 1308. The aristocrat's donations included the Monastery of S.Lucia d'Ognissanti, which once existed in Verona. Towards the end of the 16th century, a piece of uncultivated land was donated by the nuns of S. Lucia in Verona to the people ofMonte Cocolo(ancient name for this village of Valeggio) to build their new church.
The date of the consecration is uncertain, but it appears that in December 1595 the building was almost finished. After this important event, the place name slowly changed from Monte Cocolo to Santa Lucia ai Monti. Every year, between the end of April and the beginning of May and in September the festivals of St. Eurosia and of Torbolin wine are held.
